A Game Pass Review: State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition

I didn’t even mean to play this game but I’m glad I did!

One morning on my other half’s day off he was going through his Game Pass rewards and passed the controller to me to kill Plague Hearts in State of Decay 2, whilst he nipped out quick. Upon his return, the controller was not handed back and for the next week, any free moment was spent killing zombies and making the most secure bases.

Why was it so addictive? Any game that has a well mapped open world with the ability not only to upgrade my characters but also their bases is going to hit all the right buttons. You can freely switch between characters and upgrade their stats and abilities too. Actually thinking about it, I think I played this game just to upgrade things. The story wasn’t compelling, I barely remember what it was but making my characters more badass was what it was all about.

There was a story… Okay, forgive me I played this a few months ago but I remember killing blood plague zombies, lots of them. Your objective is to eradicate the blood plague.

Each character you pick up has their own storyline but you are limited to the number of characters you can have, I found this frustrating because I wanted to save them all from ‘out there’ but I also didn’t like to kick people out in order to get someone more useful. I’m just too soft, if the real zombie apocalypse ever comes I’m doomed.
